Samantha is a co-founder and facilitator of Many Faces Sangha, an intersectional practice community in West Philadelphia that centers the perspectives and leadership of people of color and TLGBQIA+ communities. They are dedicated to the practice of engaged buddhism and its incredible capacities for healing, cultivating resilience and deepening understanding.

In this webinar, Samantha will share the process and evolution of Many Faces Sangha's efforts to revise the Five Mindfulness Trainings and the Five Contemplations to be more inclusive. We'll discuss the Many Faces' Process as a sangha to celebrate our identities and create expansive, inclusive language that reflects the spirit of the teachings in our tradition, where previous versions of the mindfulness trainings have felt like barriers to Samantha at times. We'll also explore other sanghas' practices to do the same work.

We look forward to having you join us in this conversation as we continue to learn together.

ABOUT Samantha

Samantha’s mindfulness practice emerged through the discovery of the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh; when they learned of his nomination for the Nobel peace prize by Martin Luther King, Jr., and heard the phrase "We are here to awaken from the illusion of our separateness,” the phrase became permanently impressed on their heart. Samantha identifies as a musician and vocalist, and believes that Music is a Birthright: they are dedicated to creating equitable access to music as a tool for healing, transformative justice, and self-determination. They are currently the program Director at Girls Rock Philly, a music mentoring organization dedicated to building an intergenerational community of girls, women, and trans and gender non-conforming people.
